HAULING IN CERES

With nearly 50,000 residents, Ceres is the largest community in our service area outside Turlock. That means a steady mix of moves, rental turnovers, garage cleanouts and small remodels, and a lot of furniture and appliances that don't fit in a garbage cart.

The City of Ceres does offer a curbside bulky item pickup through Bertolotti Disposal, and for a single couch that can be a good deal. Where a hauling service earns its keep is everything that program is not built for: more than one pile, items that have to come out of a back bedroom or a second floor, or material the program excludes.

COMMON JOBS

WHAT CERES
CALLS ABOUT.

  • Garage and shed cleanouts
  • Furniture removal after a move
  • Rental turnovers and tenant move-outs
  • Appliance swaps and old refrigerator removal
  • Small remodel and flooring debris
  • Yard cleanup and brush piles

LOCAL RULES

HOW CERES'
BULKY PICKUP COMPARES

  • The city program allows two pickups per year, scheduled through Bertolotti Disposal at (209) 537-1500.
  • Items must be curbside at your own home, no more than 24 hours ahead, in a pile no bigger than 6 × 6 feet.
  • It does not take household garbage, electronics, tires, glass, construction debris or hazardous materials.
  • A hauling crew removes items from inside the home or garage, handles larger loads in one visit, and can take many things the curbside program excludes. Hazardous materials still require a household hazardous waste facility.

CERES QUESTIONS

GOOD TO
KNOW.

Should I use the city's bulky pickup or call a hauler?

If you have one or two items, can get them to the curb yourself and can wait for a scheduled date, the city program through Bertolotti Disposal is worth using. If the items are heavy, inside the house, more than a 6 × 6 pile, or not on the program's accepted list, a haul-away service is usually the easier option.

Can you take remodel debris the city program won't?

Construction debris is not part of Ceres' bulky item pickup. Many small-remodel loads, such as cabinets, trim, flooring and packaging, can be hauled. Describe the materials and approximate amount when you call, and mention anything dense like tile, concrete or roofing.

Does it cost more to come to Ceres?

Quotes are based on the size and type of load, access and disposal requirements. Call with your address and a description of the items; any travel is included in the quote you approve before work begins.
